the thumbnail you are showing is the fuel solonoid that will probably be sticking!give it a tap or if you are feeling brave you can strip it.from memory the solonoid is a magnetic pin thats blocks the fuel.

spraying easystart in might just be enough to force the fuel solonoid open!i would still look to see if its sticking.the other thing to possibly look at is the air flow meter.you only need the engine to backfire when on gas and it is not uncommon for it to destroy the fragile wire filament that you can see when you look into the air flow meter.

Another update: when it wont start if i disconnect the airbox and place my hand over the end of the air mass meter(sealing it) it then starts??????

Just got to remove my hand quick or it take my hand off and then connect it back to the airbox???

Wierd!!!!!!

when you put your hand over the air flow you are in effect putting on the choke! it sounds like the air flow meter is faulty. has it gone thirsty when it does run? has it backfired when on gas? when the gas is not set up properley or when running on gas when the engine is too cold they usually backfire and because the air flow should only go one way it can damage the meter.

Hi colin, when it starts it runs like a dream. Dont think its thirsty on gas. For about £18-20 i can do about 100 miles, think thats about right. On petrol ye i do think its a thirsty bugger. It did used to back fire when i first got it when it was on gas. think the previous owner had frigged about with it and turned the gas right down(weak) but tweeked and sorted that now(£130 on ht system to find a wire had come out...ffs). When i look down the air flow meter, should i be able to see anything? theres nowt there. May be a good clean ??

is that £20 on gas coz i think you should get more? definately sounds like air flow meter to me. it would be a good idea if you could get hold of one just to try coz i dont think that they cheap! when its on gas i dont think the air flow meter gets used but they suffer when they backfire.i used to get 100 miles to £13 of gas and about 40 miles to a tenner of petrol.

How does this sound to you, If i disconnect the air flow meter, it changes........didly squot....no change on tick over, driving or starting!!!!!!

Air flow meter???

If you are saying that there is no change if you disconnect the airflow meter, then that suggests to me that it's not working.

Also you said earlier that the car starts when you put your hand over the air intake, which is, in effect, 'choking it', which again hints at the airflow meter.

Good luck

Dave

Okey kokey then

Looking for a new airflow meter....mine field

Its a 1997 3.9l V8 manual

Err5595

or

Err5198

Also is there any others i could use?

Thanxs

And i really do appreciate the help im getting from everyone

I'll have 2 at that price!!!! (gold plated terminals eh!!!!!!!!)

But thats for a RR (ERR 5198) and my vin is above that range quoted.

So prosume mine is ERR5595.

OR CAN I USE THAT ONE?

Confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slight change to my last,it does make a difference while running, lumpyish.

Anyway got Mr AA man out as now it wont start atall. Traced it down to the Distributor, The distributor is not giving out 0.5volts(or above) to trigger the coil/amplifier to switch on n off....

Only triggering when it feels like it.........Sh1t!!!!

He cant understand how putting the hand over the air flow meter would make it fire??

So has anyone got a spare distributor laying around doing nowt??
(The one without the ignition amp attached to the side of it)

P155ed off now

on average they are about 54p ltr around here. I can get it at 50p ltr if i travel a bit but then ive lost the saving. Got an update for all the lpg stations for my satnav, so that helps

Well its done.......I think there must have beeen a dodgy mechanic used on this Disco!!!!!!!!
