i've read a few posts on here recently where people moan about the realiablity of the P38's. I know this is a forum where people submit problems but I wanted to shout out to everyone :) about mine.

I've just returned from Switzerland (2K mile round trip) where the car was fully laden cost me approx £340 in fuel. The driving in switzerland consisted over a few 2400m mountian passes that took 1hr to drive over, the car was doing 20mph at 3000rpm climbing for all that time, and not once did it hick-up, it was faultless. A joy to drive for hrs on end.

I know its a bit big headed but I wanted to stick up for it.

P38s are NOT nightmares- they are vehicles the youngest of which is now pretty ancient for any modern vehicle - around 8 years old - with early ones around 14 years old - and people need to keep this fact in mind when buying one or whinging about it. Electronic goods are not built to last for ever and ever amen, and this car is whole lot of electronic wizardry which can go horribly wrong. Also, apart from the unlucky few, most of the major hassles have been "passed on" to unwitting new owners by those who couldn't be bothered to put the money into looking after the vehicle correctly and maintaining it and quickly shifted it to an unsuspecting buyer who then ends up distraught on forums like this, looking for help.

I think the majority of P38 owners are happy with their 8-14 year old vehicles. I know ancient Jap vehicles that go on long after the bodies have rusted away, but most other cars don't make it past 5 years or so before they are consigned to scrapheaps. P38s are pricey to run and maintain - they were never intended for Mondeo Man (or woman) anyhow - and some issues cause a lot of heartache and frustration, but overall, I wouldn't be without mine - had it over 5 years now and love it, despite the thirsty V8 and pricey repairs which happen when needed least!!!!!!

Mine is 14 years old and a moody teenager, 90% of the time she's fantastic, go anywhere and shock friends in 90's how capable she is... But... NEVER EVER say how brilliant she is when she's within earshot, if she hears you singing her praises, that's it, she'll play silly buggers. Whenever she can hear you she has to be useless computer driven not a proper landrover, but as soon as she can't hear she's fantastic! That's how mine works anyway, try it with yours maybe it'll help!

had a few probs with mine but i love the thing, gonna get the dents and scratches sorted maybe do some other bits possibly 22inch wheels and i need to get the radio sorted, its a great car to own for the money
