Just wondering if there is such a thing as a protector for the tailgate? I'm thinking of something to stop the carpet getting mud and grime on when the dogs are jumping up into the back?

I got a plastic liner in mine. It's got Land Rover embossed on it so I assume it's an oem thing. it's got a 6 inch or so lip around it too so contains any mud etc.

Seems to work, although it only protects the carpet and doesn't stop the dog getting muddy paw prints over everything else.

Thanks for the positive replies, this sounds just like what I had in mind Guy. I've a custom made dog box from gamehawker to fit my old freelander that I'm going to put into my new P38 to put the dirty dogs in it was just the tailgate that needed protecting. I'll ask at the garage about them.

Cheers

Do you mean the load liner for the boot area Guy? I don't know of a Landrover item for the tailgate carpet only.

Lanczspringer - If you need a loadliner as mentioned above (hard plastic, genuine landrover), let me know. I have one spare. Cheap.

Yes, you're right. I realised after I posted it that the question was actually for the tailgate!

My tailgate has actually got a thick vinyl like sheet on it instead of carpet. I assumed they all came with it. Any mud the dog gets on it just wipes off.

Hi Guy
No, as far as I know, the standard issue was carpet. I have most of the accessory brochures for the P38 (I know, bit of an anorak) and there's no tailgate protectors in them. Probably some previous owner has fitted it. Sounds a good idea though. I have messy dogs too. I had a hatchbag in my old diesel P38 and it was excellent but it won't fit the one I have now as it has the CD changer which the diesel didn't. So I have one of those spare as well as the hard liner......

Thanks once again for all your input

To be fair I think I'll just get a rubber mat for the main boot area, although this will be mainly protected by the dog box.

For the tail gate I think I'll find some thin(ish) plastic and as suggested put some velcro on the back of it to hold it in place.

The rigid liner would be good so long as I could still get to my cd changer?

Cheers,

Ant

You've got to take it out to get at the CD changer. Either that or chop a bit out where the CD changer is. No big deal really. Whereabouts are you?

Yeah could chop a segment out, I just don't want to have to take the dog box out then the liner just to change a cd!

I'm in the best county in the world.....Lancashire, Fylde coast in between Blackpool and Preston.
