Hi, I've just joined tonight. For the past twelve months I have been the proud owner of a neglected P38 that I bought and with the help of a Landrover Master Tech breathed life into the old girl. Having had the inevitable issues with suspension ( which I have hopefully fixed today with a compressor pump seal kit ), lazy starting and battery drain etc which is ongoing. I now have another more serious problem of a leaking fuel injection pump. It appears that a gasket has gone on the joint.
Where can I buy a gasket set ?

Hey there,
I got a Bosch seal kit of the bay of e'.
Just a note, the top caps on the pump is adjustable. Get it wrong and it won't run or it'll run like crap!!
Ask me how!!!
There is a bolt that'll require a 7mm socket belting onto it.
In side there is also the throttle pin( for the want of a better word).
This has to go back into its place in the ring in the pump.
Remove the manifold as well, the engine will run without it when you startup. Normally you'll require the diagnostics to adjust the pump cap properly or you'll have very effect from the accel' pedal or you'll be munching diesel like there's no tomorrow!

Thanks Mike, It won't be me that's doing it. just needed to know if there was a seal/gasket kit available as I couldn't find one.

Here`s a pic that Mark Piercy posted up of the kit when he did the pump seals.

You may find them both leaking, i would, as would others, recommend you have them both done and the injector head as well.;)

Do all the seals as if one is going the others soon will. The big ones are fine. The one for oval bit round the back is an utter PITA to get to. Mind how you go because there is a spring in there just desperate to spring across the garage.

How many miles has it done? If over 120k then you might find the FIP is getting tired anyway and it is easier to just put a refurbed pump in from Diesel Jones or similar.

While you're in there you might want to replace the leak off pipes and the glow-plugs (Beru if possible) while you have the inlet manifold off. Tell him to mark the pump on all sides as it has to back in EXACTLY the same place.
