P38 wheel bearing - how to test?

Emergency stop to avoid a rabbit ..............

I love Rangie drivers.....................I'd have had for me tea :D :D

Not conclusive but the fact that it pulls up straight might rule out brakes sticking ..........on one side at least.
I'd still want to check everything was done up tight as it should tho. Discs and calippers.

Must confess I don't know much about auto's
Dont think you can free wheel em can you? to decide whether its before or after your gear box that you've got/may have a problem.

Wasn't sure what it was until I was already braking - instinct, I guess.

I was wondering the same thing about freewheeling. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to pop it into neutral while moving to see if it made any difference. I might try that on the way home. That won't exclude the transmission brake though...

The weather forecast looks perfect for grubbing about under my Rangie this weekend. Not.

Had a front wheel bearing go on my RWD Transit, made sort of groaning rumbling sound that varied when I turned left or right.

Hi Keith. Happy New Year, and thanks again for the bits.

Mine started with a droning, then the droning started modulating with a sort of out of balance wheel type noise (if that makes any sense) and now it just feels like somethings not right, as though there's some resistance somewhere. It's very hard to describe.

Ah well, it keeps me out of mischief.

Hello I'm a newbee here,

we have the same problems ( droning and joggle on our P38 )

I've checked and renewed the trak rod ends.

I renewed the brake discs and pads complete.

I jack up the car and tried to squeeze the weels on the top, on the bottom,

left and right but I can't realize any space or clearance.

How can I check the wheel bearings too? I will exclude the wheel bearings,
but I don't know how the specialists check the wheels bearings.

Do I need a long iron stick to have a longer arm the bring more power for testing , and where have I to apply on the front axle.

Have somebody pictures how to do that?

I'll hope somebody have further information to keep our Range and us alive ;-))

Ok, Tank you James Martin,

I must face the truth - I have to do the work ;.(

First I have to buy the timker wheel bearings and ask who can press it out and the new one in.

I have no press-tool here - I read - It must be a 50t press.

Have a nice time

Greetings Ralph[/QUOTEx]

you can buy the complete hub from Island 4x4 that way you don't need a press and I think they will send to Germany look on their website but be wary of Britpart ones.
