[email protected], in my case the viscous fan broke in pieces and in my area i have not found the part, i bought a universal fan but it is steel made, it is more heavy, do you think this will work or i am risking the water pump bearings because of the fan weight.
Plenty of viscous fan units available by mail order from the likes of Island 4 x 4, depends on your location, they will send anywhere in Europe. I've emailed you the mod for the electric fans:)

If he's in Mexico (.mx on first email address) he could try Atlantic British or any of the other North American parts retailers. Prices slightly higher but might save on the shipping cost.

the aircon fans are plenty powerful enough to replace the viscous fan even if the aircon is working. I can send you a simple mod to use them for cooling. PM me with an email address and I will send you a drawing:)

Hello would it be possible to send me the mod many thanks birchy

I have done datatek's mod on my diesel and now it never gets hot even when dragging our caravan. I have since put a new viscous fan, cant take a chance of overheating the motor.
I would do the mod every time as back-up

i have recently fitted a 200tdi in my rr and having fitted this engine to series in the past i allways found they run very cold and dont need the v/fan, having said that the one i have put in the rr is running hotter, i had removed the v/fan and fitted an electric fan just in case.
on a recent caravan trip the needle went up to just under half and the fan seemed to be running all the time, so i have decided to refit the v/fan as going on caravan trip to cornwall in august and dont want any overheatig problems

Hi im thinking of doing the aircon fan hack as i have now removed my aircon to fit a larger intercooler could someone please send me the wiring diagram for the mod. My temp at the moment sits just above halfway and the viscous has never kicked in except when i first start the car, I do have a brand new radiator fitted .
Thanks in advance

It's polite to introduce yourself first in the appropriate section.
Bugger removing the aircon, it's 36C here and a bigger intercooler is entirely pointless.
The aircon fans cool mine without the viscous in 36C with the aircon flat out:D
I suggest you remove your email address or you will be inundated with spam.
I assume from the mention of intercooler it's a diesel.

I notice lots of people on this thread seem to be fond of spam! Never post your e-mail address! Personal Messages (PM) can be sent by clicking on the name.

I'm interested in your mod. I'll pm. Last weekend I ended up wading through deep water and the fan must have broken and damaged the rad. Soon after exiting the water I noticed the water temp increase, and when in traffic the steam kept coming! I stopped, checked the coolant level and saw it had dropped - so walked to a garage bought some radiator seal (expensive stuff, claiming to not block engine channels) and some coolant, and got going again. Fortunately I seem to have caught it in time. The seal solved the problem, got me to my destination, and it has held level since. I intend to remove rad for a permanent repair, flush the system etc.. but will consider leaving the viscous coupling and fan out completely for better mpg. My vehicle always seemed to run cool anyway, so I had planned on replacing the thermostat at some stage. I do also use the coolant through various heat exchangers to heat veg oil.

I done this electrickery fan mod on my 2. 5 diesel ....works better than the viscous fans I bought from island4x4...I have now installed the disco viscous unit also with back up electric fan set at 96°......

Hey you lot, my name is Mark, I am wanting to remove the v/fan also and considering fitting an electric fan. Does the aircon hack interfere with a functioning aircon system? Cant keep the rr hot enough to maintain torque lock up. It just keeps cooling down a bit to efficiently! thanks in advance.

What has heat got to do with torque lockup?

The engine and gearbox need to be warm enough for the torque lock up on the box. Tested it today . Removed the v/fan from the engine and drove 40minutes to Bordeaux and 80% percent of the time it remained in t/ lock out. But traffic ahead ment a sharp exit on the motorway to refit the v/fan in a hurry. Which was in the boot. It confirms to me the box works and an electric fan is a way forward, it was 32° after all.

Think you had better get some diag on your car, torque converter lock is active in top gear at over 50 MPH or 80 Kph. Nothing to do with engine or gearbox temp.
