P38 TO BUY or not TO BUY?

Hello everyone;
There it goes,i found a 95 petrol 4.6 hse dark green (holland and holland correct me if i'm wrong) as they call it,first i wanna know y it's called like that?
the story is: this p38 has done 116 000 kms on the clock,the chassis and paint is like almost new,it was sitting in an underground garage for 4 years,the tires are michelin,standard 16 inches 235 70 five spokes,the leather and interior and headliner is like new,i have removed my bmw battery 64 amps and put it in the beast to start it up,well what u know it started from the first time,the engine is so smooth (no valves ticking nor pistons knoking nor timing chain squealing) the cats are in a very condition (no rotten egg smell),u can't c any steam from the exhaust nor blue smoke nor black smoke,when i closed the driver door the eas leveled the beast in less than a minute (it was on the bump stops due to lack of use).
when i put D it was so smooth (no boom or bang from the tranny),drove it for half an hour temp gauge in the middle,i tried the low range it has switched very fast to low range the light on the dash didn't even get on(is this good or bad?) to wait 4 the switch and the gear range selector turned amber without even flashing for more than 3 seconds.drove it in low range no wining sounds from the t/f box,so smooth.went while driving into uneven terrain u can't here any knocking noise (bushes or struts etc...) so smooth,even smoother than my e36 bmw.Now here comes the bad things:
1.ac didn't work (compressor didn't kick in) owner said coz no gaz (4 year)
2.srs light is on
3.hveac lcd dark (burned bulb from behind)
4.passenger door only opened manualy,window not working
5.tailgate not opening (bad switch or cut wire in the passenger door)
6.radio wasn't working (owner said he has the code),the radio screen only lights up but u can't c "code in" only -------
7.vacuum cruise control hoses disintegrated.
8.engine oil puddle under the beast
9.upon opening the engine oil cap i noticed (2 drops of mayonaise inside it maybe due to condensation) coz no oil in coolant,no coolant in oil.
10.brakes light on dash (red) even while driving

the owner said to me that he'll fix all the electrical problems mentioned above including the ac,but the hevac lcd bulb i will fix it.
So guys wht do u think?in my country 7500$ for the p38 is a very nice price?everything else works (seats moving,heated seats,heated windscreen etc...)
i didn't try the keyless entry on the fobs coz both of them no battery,nor i have noticed the alarm led flashing inside the vehicle upon opening and locking with the key,neither honk honk honk when i installed my bat.
WHT I NOTICED THE SECOND DAY I VISITED THE BEAST:
the coolant level in the expansion tank was not obvious,so i filled it with almost 1 ltr of water,and the cap was loose when i opened it not firmly closed (althougt we added water to the beast b4 test driving it),this is wht is making me thinking of not getting it but i am drooling 2 buy it,so comfortable so high so classy my bmw looks like a sardines can when i am inside of it now :D coz i am 195cm 130 kgs :D but i tell u people WHT A PIECE OF CAR IS THE P38 SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFULL.
i have downloaded rave, owners manual,read it for 5 times each,i saw range rover common fixes and problems,i buy it or not?
Irishrover if u are here pleaseeeeeeeeee advise.

Ahhhhh!!!... that puts a different "Slant" on what I was going to say ......

You have to ask yerself.....

Are you a "Reasonable Mechanic" if so .. can you get the parts required IF it goes wrong (are they readily available ???.......

If I were in your part of the world I'd seriously be considering a Diesel version......

WHY?????...... well the RR DSE 2.5 runs the BMW M51 engine & I would GUESS that BMW spares & parts are far easier to come by that LandRover spares

Having said that I have a 4.6 HSE & find it a wonderful car with everything I want in a vehicle just consider the "Spares" position before you jump into buying it ..

Heres some info on the "Holland & Holland" spec


Holland and Holland edition

Made in collaboration with Holland and Holland (a famous gunsmith based in London, UK). Some of these were manufactured in dark green paintwork, brown leather upholstery with cream piping, gun boxes, H & H inscriptions throughout the vehicle, partially green painted alloys and every extra such as a DVD player and TVs throughout the vehicle. Holland and Holland can be any metallic colour, such as gold, blue, anthracite and of course the common green. They were mainly sold as 2.5 diesel but some V8 are known. They do not always have gun boxes and a Holland and Holland inscription all over, but brass plates in the doors. They all seem to have a CD changer in the boot and a Karman advanced hi-fi system. All have automatic gearboxes. They certainly do not all come with TV and DVD, these were only available during the last two years.
NAS 2000 Holland and Holland edition Range Rovers were equipped the same as their British counterparts except without a rear entertainment system, and retailed for US$79,000, which included Land Rover duffel bags (retail: US$1,500)
 
thanks for ur infos regarding the holland specs,it seems it is not the holland edition that i have seen,as for the diesel,unfortunatly in my country (the thirrrrrrrrrrd world) we don't import diesel vehicles exept for cargo trucks,the use of diesel vehicles is prohibited,as for spare parts they r for sure affordable coz they r cheaper than europe (no offense).
 
Should a genuine H & H have 16" wheels? If bulb blown behind HEVAC screen then any/ all warning messages will be invisible. Are all keys with car? Is EAK code available? If car locks on key but no led flash does that mean no immobiliser/alarm? Don`t know what docs/reg papers are expected in Lebanon, but would suggest don`t let your enthusiasm get the better of you, at least until you`ve checked everything..... twice.
 
it seems it is not a holland & holland (10x to the info provided by the hooded claw) ,the 2 keys are available,the eka codes r available,as u said abt the lcd display u can't c any information coz it is just a black screen,i am sureeeeeeeee that there is a book symbol coz as i have said the ac is empty of gaz,wht worries me is the coolant the most,wht do u think abt that?
 
you need to fit the cap on properly, and take it for a good run. when you get back feel how much presure is in the top hose. dont ever try and take the cap off with a hot engine.. never..
 
How far can you get to test drive it? Obviously a couple of kliks up and down the road is not enough. A run of 20km on a fast road in the afternoon sun, followed by a crawl to simulate a traffic jam should throw up any faults? Any steep mountain roads to put her thro` her paces? p.s. try getting a battery for fob. A small investment.

will do that,80% of lebanon is mountain roads,steep hills,highways with pot holes,eneven roads,open gutters,etc...:doh::doh::doh::doh::doh: that's y i need a range rover,coz in the bmw when u drive on these roads it is the most ultimate of ultimate of ultimate driving experience,it is just like u have an orchestra playing on ur back seat (booms,bangs,clonks,tweet tweet,jesusssssssss.)
 
Sounds like the natural habitat of Rangies. Not on the inner city school-run. I do hope you`re lucky with this one. Take no blind chances, but when sure go for it!

i will wht do u think abt the brake light on the dash?if it needs new pads will it go on? or it will only do that if the brakes fluid is low?or handbrake applied?

Bit difficult being definative (different markets=different laws, etc) but on mine (l.h.d. Belgian market) there`s no wire onto the pads to warn of low friction material level. Brake light warning will come on with h-brake, and also with low fluid. When next checking, look under bonnet at reservoir. Could also be faulty switch, could be something else? Another thought; any good local dealers near you? A capital city should, I imagine, be ok, but if there`s only one you may be stuck if you have a falling out with them!
 
we have alot of rangies here,although we r in lebanon but we r very up todate when it comes to car,p38 is getting old all over the world and lebanon,there is a lot of dealers,professional repair mecanical garages,i am not worried about repairing,i want 2 be aware of everything that comes with the p38,so they wont rip me appart,u know when it comes in diagnosing the p38 how the stealers sharp their knives to butcher u

Good chance this is the case, get it gassed up and see if there are any leaks in the system..the condenser (A/C "Radiator at the front of the car is a favourite for leaking)
2.srs light is on
Could be a logged fault where the battery has gone flat for a while..check with diagnostics.
3.hveac lcd dark (burned bulb from behind)
Could be a blown bulb OR faulty HEVAC unit, if the unit is faulty this could affect the aircon not working
4.passenger door only opened manualy,window not working
Could be superlocked, may need new latch. Window could just be stuck or a fault in the wiring
5.tailgate not opening (bad switch or cut wire in the passenger door)
Could be dirty contacts or the pushbutton sticking..also faulty wiring
6.radio wasn't working (owner said he has the code),the radio screen only lights up but u can't c "code in" only -------
If it's the Diversity model, there could be a fault..easily repaired in the UK for around £75 fully serviced.
7.vacuum cruise control hoses disintegrated.
Cheap fix, just need about 4-5metres of suitable rubber hose.
8.engine oil puddle under the beast
Get underneath and see where it's coming from, probably a seal or gasket gone, could also be oil cooler/hoses.
9.upon opening the engine oil cap i noticed (2 drops of mayonaise inside it maybe due to condensation) coz no oil in coolant,no coolant in oil.
In a warm climate, I wouldn't think condensation is a problem..get a sniff test done in the coolant header tank.
10.brakes light on dash (red) even while driving
Could be low brake fluid level or faulty handbrake switch

You need to try and determine where the coolant is going..is the footwell carpet damp, if so heater "O" rings may have gone. Hard to determine whether a blown head gasket or slipped liner is the cause. Remove the spark plugs and look for one that looks as though it has been washed.:behindsofa:

hiiiiiii irishrover 10x a million,sorry i am bothering u,by the way i checked the carpets they r dry,so removing the spark plugs is next,will do that.thank you
