Need some advice and opinions please. I have been driving a 2.5DHSE P38 (2000/W) for about 4 years have recently been thinking about upgrading. I have narrowed down y preferences, both on ’10 either the 3.6TDV8 or the 5.0 Supercharged. I am a little concerned about fuel economy, although understand that unless you drive c20K pa there is much in the way of cost saving.
Based in London I mainly use the vehicle on weekends, I do tend to do “long” trips to the west midlands every few weeks and also further down south ( New Forrest) once a month or so. As well as around town on weekends. Am not too fussed about putting my foot to the metal. I am interested in comfort and a smooth ride. I enjoy the RR experience so those are my two options; Thoughts please?

didn't consider that at all. I will have a look, although i think it may be out of my budget. Goes into the 30+ category..

A 3.6tdv8 will return 17 to 20 in town on a run expect 25 to 27
a 5.0sc will return 10 to 14 in town on a run 18 to 22
a 3.0v6 diesel will return 20 to 24 in town and 30 plus on a run i have seen these nearly topping 36
a 4.4tdv8 will give 15 to 18 in town and on a run 25plus

I work in a main dealer and always check there mpg figures so I always see real world driving hence the figures. I love the new 5.0sc in the new sport and 405 and the 4.4tdv8 but then the 3.0tdv6 is also a very good engine.

for your year of vehicle and looking at the full fat range rover go for the 4.4tdv8 plenty of grunt and the fuel economy is reasonable. If you want the loud pedal and can afford the fuel costs get the sc

good info
thanks :)

Thats ok fellas, I have seen shocking figures like 8mpg from the sc and seen a 3.0tdv6 knocking on 36mpg and a freelander 2 manual doing 42mpg but with an average speed of 45mph it had had to be up and down the dual carriageway all the time

my Insurance broker, told me to steer clear of the 5.0SC for that very reason. the 3.0TDV6 does sound good, out of my budget right now. am trying to stretch to the 4.4TDV8 may need to sell a kidney.

You are right there hippo but I used it as an example, and the 3.0tdv6 is now fitted to the l405!!!!!!!!!
The l405 has the 3.0tdv6 the 4.4tdv8 and the 5.0sc and the new sport has the same engines as well....

Also please dont call a full fat range rover a vogue all vogue means to us in the trade is a trim level. It is a range rover pure and simple.
we know them as:
Range rover classic
range rover p38
all new range rover l322
the all new range rover l405

You would be suprised the 3.0tdv6 does shift I can assure you of that, landrover discontinued the 3.6tdv8 back in 2010/2011 because they got better fuel economy and near on the same power as the tdv8.
