p38 throttle issue

hi i got 2.5ltr manual 1998 p38

problem not always there when i set off from lights its ok will drive in 1st then when you change into 2nd the injector light flashes and cuts out
so i turn key off and start it up again and its ok
it doesnt do it every time
and if i set off and revs go up to 3500 and then change gear it wont do it

i have replaced fuel filter on service yesterday but still doing it

anybody got any ideas

Diagnotics first I'm afraid no point guessing , near the starter motor

DO NOT under any circumstances remove the bracket it is attached to. Just the sensor. Or you will enter a world of pain.

Could also be the needle lift sensor, but diagnostics are the way forward.

Its set to within 1 mm you can remove it, I had to as trying to undo the sensor bolt was bending the bracket . So I scored a mark on the engine at the end of the bracket , removed the hole lot , removed sensor from bracket .

And put it all back together no problem no fuss .

Two bolts one for sensor
And one for the sliding bracket .

You need a tool to reset the sensor air gap. It can be done without one but a world of pain. Specially if you haven't got a clue what you are doing. Changing the sensor is easy unbolt from bracket and fit new. But removing the bracket without at least marking it's position is a no no.
