P38 (Thor) & CTEK Charger

I've got a 2000 RR Vogue, that spends around 8 weeks at a time doing very little as I'm overseas a lot. I'd arranged for a friend to come over take her out for a spin and keep things ticking over for me....surprise, surprise it hasn't quite worked out like that and I've just had a message from the girlie telling me the battery is flat.

Two issues:

1. Best way to get her resurrected, battery off and mains charged or jump started? Are there any serious problems with either or and serious do's and don'ts - Apart from "Don't let it happen in the first place!"

2. Prevention, was looking at getting one of the solar chargers to keep her charged, but "Thorn" basically told me they couldn't guarantee it would make a difference in winter. Now looking at something along the lines of a CTEK XS7000 charger, with a permanent connection from the battery to a connection/socket in the glove box, so I can run the mains cable from the house to a charger unit in the car through the boot. Would want a connection that is compatible with the solar charger or can be made to be compatible. Anyone any experience of these CTEK units or done this differently?

If anyone has used one of these with a RR which one would you use?

A decent sized solar panel will do the job fine if your battery is OK. I have one that sits across nearly the full width of the rear parcel shelf. I have fitted a permanantly live accesory socket in the boot and connect the solar charger via a charge regulator. Even in winter it puts out enough power to keep the battery topped up.
Not keen on jump starts as it still leaves you with the problem of charging the battery.

optimate is what most bikers use to keep their batteries charged over the winter, not sure if they will work with a rangie tho !

I use an Optimate for bikes and use a C-TEk for cars, both are for keeping a battery in a "ready" state.
I have just charged a battery with the c-tek that had been on a rangey not used for 6 months and it has recovered it..

Sounds promising, which CTEK unit do you use? Would you recommend it, the big problem for me is there not being anyone around to keep an eye on the thing. I guess I'm looking for some magic solution, when there probably isn't an easy one!

I use the Multi XS 25000 which is over the top for your needs as i need it for remapping.
The Multi XS 4000 would be suitable for you mate, all designed for vehicles being left for long periods of time.

Thanks for that..it's always useful to have a personal recommendation..I was stuck between the 4003 & 7000, hopefully I can get this sorted before I end up with electrical problems, as touch wood, she's run pretty much perfectly so far.
