Can any one advise how to free a p38 sunroof siezed in the closed position? The motor tries but stops in both directions.

So WASH THE SURFACE WITH WATER ... DRY IT ..AND Try To Knock On It From The Outside And Inside Gentelly ..then Press Its Button And Help It To Open With Your Hand ... I Did This Operation In My Brother's New Grand Cherokee And It Worked ..
I Hope This Help
Regards
Charbel .

I tried a soft spatula from the wifes food processor round the rim of the sunroof just to make sure it wasn't stuck. When I press tilt and gently lift
the sunroof it still will not go. I think maybe the cable is stuck, but I cannot lubricate it with the roof closed...any suggestions?

be very careful abount continually operating the sunroof motor with the window itself jammed. i cant find the thread now but from what i remember the sunroof has some sort of plastic parts that run along a rail and if they break you will have this problem. When you tried opening the roof did you ever heard a loud crack/bang??

The other alternative is to have the headliner out and get a look at the whole thing that way.

Tried the special handle but it won't move either way more than a few mm
I don't want to use too much force in case I break the pinion on the motor.
I haven't had any loud bangs yet. Think will try some WD40 and a long nozzle.

headliner out and wd40 everything in site, plus gas is better, its thiner and will penetrate better but leave it for a few days to soak in, other than that like ^^^ says use the key and force it open what you got to lose?
