p38? should i buy one?

Hi I am new to the site, I have owned two old range rovers a 73 v8 and a 95 vogue 200tdi which I loved then a 52 plate freelander and a 53 plate disco, Then had to be sensible and got my wife a golf. Now I have been offered a mint p reg P38 diesel and feel very tempted! should I go for it? any sugestions welcome. cheers Mike.

Probs best to stay clear. They're plagued with electrical issues.

They were built to be classy. They're dated now and have lost that classiness about them.

Well that's a loaded question mike diesel are more prone to lasting at I could give you a list as long as your arm no longer but I give you the basics

Test eas system take it for a long drive and make sure its not over heating
Ensure smooth gear changes if auto
The list goes on but these are the most popular problems
If your handy with spanners your be alright if not ensure you have deep pockets .

Really well I must be lucky then if the worst electrical problem was the becm it can be fixed for £200 now go and eat your hat

Its a Land Rover. It will throw you problems like an in-bred dog but if you are willing to crawl under it every Saturday, go for it.

they are a great car,IF you keep on top of the probs that it can throw at you.ie the suspension probs,the BECM,slipped liners on the V engines.diesel is slightly underpowered but that can be overcome with plug in modules or chipping.
