Hi all,

Right, well i bought my p38 a couple of weeks ago and the only thing i could see wrong with it was that it only had the 1 key and that didnt unlock the car unless you did it the old fashioned way (put it in the lock :)). can i get the key programmed or do i need another key?

what year is your car? have you tried resynking it to the car? do you have your eka code? where in this country do you live there maybe somebody close to help you. and welcome to the mad mad world of p38s ..

Right, well first thanks for the reply.
2nd, its a 95 2.5dse. How do i resynk it? whats an eka code ???? and i live just outside of Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

Cheers

ok try resync key, put key in door press lock button and turn to lock and back to center, then press unlock button and turn to key to unlock and back to center you must keep the buttons pressed in when doing it. give this a try then we will go on to the eka code and where to get it. the other thing is your blue wire may hve been talken off your rf box so try your fob near to the rear side window on the driver side, lets know how you get on ..

Right, tried synking of the key but that doesnt seemed to have worked. Even tried it against the rear window but no luck there either
As for the blue wire/rf box....... huh???

Sorry bout this people but i am TOOOTALLY useless when it comes to things mechanical/technical:eek: Scares the crap out of me to be honest......

ok you may need your eka code you can get this free from a main agent just take your log book with you, somebody will walk you though putting you eka in good luck it not hard to do but you must take your time doing it ok..

If you lock and unlock your car manually does it still start up straight away? That seems strange. When I did that once (when my remote battery was dead) I couldn't start the car ... until I had entered the EKA code.

BTW - The EKA code is what is needed to bypass the alarm and immobiliser so that you cabn start and drive the car even if the alarm/key fob is inoperational.

If you can open the car with the key and then start it, forget the EKA code, that's not the problem. When you press the button on the key, does the LED light up? If not the battery is dead. Otherwise remove the parcel shelf support on the drivers side and look to see if the RF receiver has been disconnected.

Im with datatek on this first things first, get some new batteries in the fob to make sure its ok, red led on fob should flash when you press a button, or get a fob refurb kit off fleabay if the butons look a bit suspect.

Firstly thanks for all the advice, I have new batteries in the fob and the led flashes when i push the buttons but nothing else happens.
I will look into removing the parcel shelf support.
Thanks again people.

This should help ... (from rangerovers.net)

"Remove the parcel shelf, push the rear seat directly behind the drivers side forward, undo the two screws holding the side parcel shelf panel on. remove the panel.
The receiver is the the first box nearest the the rear seat, the amplifier is the black box nearest the rear of the vehicle.

Back to the receiver, you'll see two connecters, one tiny black connector will trace to the antenna that goes spreads across the glass, you should try & disconnect the antenna first & see if that makes a difference to the battery drain.
If you disconnect the whole receiver you might have some immobiliser problems if you go to start up later, so remember to connect back up before using the vehicle."

I suspect that someone may have disconnected the whole receiver ...
