p38 problem

Hi There
I have an S reg P38 and I seem to have developed a problem.
It seems to happen when the engine is hot .
The accelerator dosent respond quickly and the only way I can describe it is it is like a belt drive and the belt dosent engage straight away.
It gradually builds up and there is no problem once the revs are high.
Pulling away is a night mareand if the car stalls I cant get it started until it cools down.
Any ideas??

What engine and what gearbox, it might help


Oh and amending your details to show a location might help. For all you know there could be a P38 wizard living at the other end of your street.

Sorry I am new to this
my P38 has the BMW2.5 turbo deisel engine,
I live in Staines in middlesex.
I wondered if it is a fuel pump problem.
Im not sure about what gearbox it is.Someone said it might be the gearbox but if it was, would the problem be constant?
It only happens occasionally.
