I had a look at what appears to be a good condition 4.0 ltr P38

Drives well, smooth, no clonks or whines, rust or corrosion...
But on removing the oil filler I looked up into the cap to find what looks like butter and moisture .
Has this one got the dreaded leaks ?

Got to let the chap know to-morrow

Forgot to say it runs on LPG

Cheers Fred

hiya mate what sort of mileage has the car done ? are there any other symptoms ? if the car has been used for loads of short journeys then you sometimes find this kind of build up in the rocker covers even on a perfect engine in all other ways , one make that instantly springs to mind is the old vauxhalls from the 60s and 70s and to some extent even later models.
the main cause of the problem is due to cold air passing over warm rocker covers , this combined with poor or blocked engine breathers will produce condensation.
if the car is as good as you say it may well be worth looking deeper and checking to see if there are any other associated problems , i.e is it pressurising , air bubbles constantly entering the header tank, staining around the header tank area .
im not saying this is definatly the problem but rather than lose an otherwise good vehicle it may be worth considering if it is actually an engine fault or just emulsion from short journeys.

The condition of the car other than the butter in the oil filler cover is very good, So rather dissapointed with the fact that it may have gasket/sleeve problems, bodywork unmarked, interior clean and dry, underneath no apparant rust on the chassis etc.

My friend had to do that as I can't get down easily, He also said it could be due to short runs.
