P38 Petrol Anti-Syphon?

I was trying to syphon out £50 worth of petrol before I sell it, but it doesn't work I even got a vacuum pump sucking the pipe but nothing.

What have they done to stop you? The pipe seemed to go in a long way.

My dad seems to think the filler pipe might go right into the tank and point upwards and when filling normally the petrol would come up the pipe like a fountain and run down into the tank.

Sounds like it would work. There was certainly no mesh across the filler stopping the pipe entering.

I tried to get fuel out of mine so i could drop the tank to replace the sender unit but couldn`t so had to drop the tank half full of fuel, then syphon it out via the hole where the sender came from to make it lighter to fit. So while it was empty i had a look, on the end of the pipe there is a a small spring loaded flap, impossible to move with the pipe off the syphon pump but it does allow liquid past,it is also slightly on the tip making it harder to get the syphon pipe round.

I did syphoned my tank without any issues for fuel sender unit change.
There was no protection.
