Hi All,
Hope every one is well?
Could anyone help me please, i was on the M25 in traffic and came of on to the M23 in traffic when the traffic started flowing again my temp guage started to climb and got into the red, then started to go down again.BUT my engine lost all power then cut back in again. Five minutes later temp guage in the red no power and steam blowing out the bonnet like an east end fog.
Stoped the car and let it cool down filled it up with some water and carried on ( buy this time i was 2 miles for home ) car was fine a mile later no engine power at all doing about 10 MPH got home left it over night.
In the morning filled it up with water let it run for about an hour, no water leaks no over heating took it for a driver and it is fine, i did take the panels out in the drivers foot well and around where the accelerator pedel is it was wet. The heating works fine.
Your wealth of knolwledge would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Ps i had no warning bleeps or text on dash

Water in the driver's footwell sounds like the infamous heater o'rings on the end of those pipes that come through the bulkhead.

Worth doing the viscous fan newspaper test too.

O rings would be wettest near the tranny tunnel....accelerator area could be sunroof drains or pollen filter housings....

I know that has nothing to do with your overheat, but could explain the damp carpets.

Be mindful with the M51 BMW derived diesels, it doesn't take much to damage the heads when the engine overheats.

Could be parked at an angle so it runs towards the accelerator area, but I've like it anywayo_O:)
