Hi Folks,
A mate of mine wants to know how easy/possible it is to install a 2.5 or 3.0 tds BMW engine aka P38(2.5) into his Defender. Before anyone asks why etc. The TDi he's got in there is fine low milage etc, but he's got this idea of putting the 6 cylinder tds engine in instead.
He'd like to go to an auto box as well.
So, the question is, what auto box does he need. The prop comes off the wrong side(compared to a 90/Defender) of the transfer box on a P38 if I'm not mistaken.
Has anyone got any suggestions please?

Many thanks.

Will

Why would he wanna replace a good low mileage lump?

He's just got it into his head that he wants a more torquey engine coz he's planning on doing the Poland trip (Dresden to Breslau) next year. Devon 4x4 boys entered and from what I've heard they killed their engine after pushing hard through sand. What my mate's after is a 6 cyl lump that due to the extra torque, won't be under so much stress in these situations.
