p38 oil leak

hi any know how to stop my p38 td oil filter from spraying oil over my engine when on motoway travel, i have cheacked for splits and it is tight , is there ment to be a gasket on the lid?

Should be a rubber "O" seal between the cap and filter casing, replaced the filter on mine today and found the seal brittle and cracked.

There is three o-rings that get replaced on each new filter.

Two small ones and a really big one, it will be the big one thats leaking.

But the question is, how old is the filter if the big o-ring is knackered? And when did it have new oil?

hi thanks for that changed the oil two months ago but ther was no o ring there but was super tight to get the lid off, will go and get a o ring in the morrning, thanks for the info
