Just in the midst of renewing the oil cooler pipes on my 2.5 diesel.

Whilst I was at it I wondered if there was a gasket to renew between the engine block and the base of the (aluminum) filter housing.

Should there be a gasket? No sign of one (or gasket gunk) on mine. If there should be one is it anything special (part no.? or supplier) or just a regular one I could tap out myself from gasket paper (thickness?).

Thanks for advice.

Was my question too obvious? or too boring?! ;)

In case anyone needs to know:

Part No.: STC3337 is: Gasket - Oil Filter Housing to Block - Genuine Land Rover.
Got mine from Rimmer, £3.50 ish. I think the part no. is a LR one, but not sure... looks embossed on the piccy so didn't make my own...

Well it is odds on and pretty obvious it would not be dry fitted without a gasket or O ring. It is also pretty obvious that most gaskets can be tapped out on the component with a small ball pein hammer. So yes a pretty none question when it was obvious it would need some sort of seal and was so easy to sort out. :)
