Would you buy off-road equipment for your P38 if it were made available?

To me "proper" off-roading is driving there, doing it and driving back home again in the same car - same as with trackdays on the bike - part of the thrill is taking your daily driver to its (or your) limits.

The P38 has excellent axle articulation and on the later cars proper four-wheel TC that'll get you out of situations that would defeat an early 90 or a series Landy without an expert driver (like one wheel at each end in the air simultaneously), P38s are heavy - so not the best cars in deep wet mud, and yes the approach and departure angles are average to say the least - they are still extremely capable off-road cars with the right tyres on - far more so than most luxury SUVs and quite a step forward over a stock classic. They have outstanding traction, so in situations where traction is more important than ultimate ground clearance - you're on to a winner! :D

Totally agree on this, although without being sure it is reliable (or at least repairable) I would not take it anywhere now... Am I right that even the L322 does not have the ladder frame chassis?

That's right;)

Enjoyed this one a lot, although quite a lot of it seems insane to me! I don't treat mine like an agricultural vehicle, it has a chassis to remain (with an actual paintwork and bumpers on it). If you have to leave stock wheels and most equipment behind and upgrade so badly I think that means you gone too far, these vehicles are not necessarily designed to conquer the white bits on the map... If I wanted to do something like the russian guys, I could always pop back over back to Hungary and pick up one of their leftover 6x6 Kra3 truck for £3000 - then we are talking :)

they are brill off road they climb over just about anything slight trim on rear bumper was all i had to do on my last p38 and spray wd40 or the likes on the height sensors at least once a month to stop them kicking up faults :D

Silicon grease on the back of the height sensor connectors helps, can't see what WD40 would do apart from making things gummy eventually. Spraying the shaft with WD40 will do nothing, there are two O rings in the housing, again silicon grease spray might help but it will not get past the first O ring.
