Britpart are claiming that some parts for the P38 are no longer available. Some of these vehicles are only 10 years old so how come that's happening?

Anyway, the parts in question are interior trim, in particular the upper post trims for the middle (b/c BTR9069LUM) and rear upper post trim (d/BTR9072/3LUM).

Does anybody know another source for these items without resorting to the breakers yard?

I even found a place in Utah U.S.A. but they won't reply to me. Maybe they think I'm crazy.

Anyone know of a secret stash?

Cheers,

G

Rimmer Bros search function also shows these parts as being no longer available. Might turn up at the odd dealer as new old stock if you are lucky.

I had this problem with trying to buy a door bin, they are no longer available either.
But they still state 70% of all Land Rovers are still on the road!

Absolutely! They're all still on the road, driving around looking for interior trim!

Tried LRSERIES.COM but nothing there, tried another outfit in the states and awaiting a reply...

I can't believe it really, after all, it's about now that we're all thinking about a bit of renovation...

Bloody Britpart.

I tried to get a rear seat release yellow button cover thingie for my '04 Freelander 2 years ago (so car was only 5 years old at the time) only to be told the part was obsolete back then. Seems trim parts are made in small numbers above production requirements and when sold out that's it. Land Rover did start a Classic Parts Dept for the RRC, and started to reproduce popular parts that were OOS. I don't know if this service continued, but very doubtful P38 parts will get this status.

My local Landy dealer doesn't stock P38 parts any more either... I asked to see an airbox to try fitting it into my 300Tdi to connect my snorkel (but that's another story!)

I'm not suprised at that. Mine has to order what I need (if I don't get it online), but t'other day I wanted an engine sump plug washer, autobox strainer with O rings and sump gasket. The parts chappie (who I know very well (wonder why?) was very suprised that he had it all in stock. He said they haven't had a P38 for service or work for over 2 years. Does that tell you main dealer prices are too high so the service/repair work is done elswhere?

It's the same with all main dealers......stuff on the shelf equals cash out of the bank. Unless you have an almost new car which reuires regular servicing to keep the warranty intact they won't keep anything that stands the chance of getting cobwebs on it.
The game is now that you order and pay for the stuff up front and it's delivered from some central depot in a couple of days.
The dealers over here charge a hefty premium for spares anyway because they have to come from abroad (The UK)....almost double the UK prices.

Regarding the trims...why not take a leaf out of Dopey's book and cover them with leather for a few quid and they looked a treat after he did them.

Not wanting to go off topic but for the first time in her life my P38 failed her MOT with “CO2 reading too high for MOT”
Testbook- replaced OSF CO2 Sensor (what ever that is) 1 X Oxygen Sensor £317.53 + VAT + £120 labour including an oil change. MOT £55.85, oil £55.00 + VAT.

1 X Oxygen Sensor £317.53 + VAT + £120 labour including an oil change.
Wow! What a rip off. The O2 sensor prices for genuine LR boxed items are:
ERR1834 Upto 1997 £303.70
AMR6244 1998 £253.56
MHK100940 from 1999 £64.32

From Rimmer Bros the prices for non-genuine items not in a LR box are £65.77 and £66.63 respectivly for the early types, the later one isn't stocked as an aftermarker item as the LR genuine item price is sensible. The aftermarket items stocked by Rimmer Bros are decent items too, though pretty much all O2 sensors are OK, so long as you don't try to fit a universal type, they're NOT universal.

ERR1834 Upto 1997 £303.70 - that's my baby, main dealer so they were only a bit over the top.
Thing is I wouldn't know a genuine from an unboxed RB one.
