Hi All,

I am pretty new to the landrover world so looking for a bit of advice. Due living in the country I have my eye on a manual 2001 P38 DSE circa 64K miles from a local 4x4 dealer.

Recently I found out that the air suspension pump may need replacing as it gets older, however this one seems to pump up ok and it drives well.

As I am a little bit green on this can anyone advise on what I should look for and key things that need to be replaced / serviced / costs.

I plan to keep for a while until the kids have developed from being little monsters.

Thanks in advance

Andrew:) :) :)

Dont worry about the pump, if it works then it works, it should lift to full hight in less/or about 5 seconds, and drop in about that time too, look out for dash faults, check the air con (both sides) and heating, so its all working and blowing as it should, when you drive listen out for any whining of the engine, wining could be the air con pump going, look for over heating, make sure the engine is cold when you start it up, (owners keep the engine hot for an easy start so it will cover starting problems,

Feel for damp on the carpet on the pax side, owners wouldn't be too happy if you pull his console apart :D :D

Parts aren't too bad on the service side of things, but cheap isn't always best & nether is expensive, try not to get Britparts if you can help it, look for brand names, cheap sites are Paddock Spares - Land Rover, Range Rover Parts & Accessories - Discovery, Defender and Freelander Famous Four - Independent Land Rover Parts, Accessories, Sales & Servicing Specialist - Land Rover Parts, Accessories, Vehicle Sales, Servicing & Repair Land Rover parts, spares, Land Rover accessories, all models
John Craddock Ltd - Specialists in Land Rover Parts and Spares

etc, most do free post when you spend £50 or over

Read this forum from end to end. I wish I'd had the advice meeted out before I jumped for what seemed an out and out bargain. I'd say just about every job from hell [the O ring thing is just a bit of light relief compared to what you could get] has had an airing on landyzone.

I'll look forward to your post saying "the kids're no longer monsters". mmmm
regards P.S
