after my 95 p38 was serviced fuel economy, was poor for about a week or so,then it picked up and is doing near to 30 mpg,is this good, and can someone tell me why the service made it thirsty for 2 weeks,(19 mpg)thanks for your help.yes sorry 2.5 diesel.not a v8 that would be impressive. i prefer this model to my older range rover which was a 3.5 v8,despite the scary stories i still went for one,i have had this p38 3 weeks now,and so far so good.
i do like the bmw 2.5 straight six,is that wrong to say that?

I take it it's a diesel???? when posting for advice do please FFS give us something to work with. cos of ya getting 30odd mpg out of a V8 every fooker will want to know who serviced ya motor.

Auto???

Was the battery disconnected in the service? ECU reset possibly or the mpg computer if reset takes time to settle out so if your doing small miles then two weeks is about right from my experience for it to settle.

My computer shows 24.9mpg (97 DSE Auto ECU-remap with roof bars on MT's and hot start fix with 132K on the clock) over the last 4,600 miles since last service. No idea what it did before that coz I didn't own it. Some say the computer is a little off (usually very optimistic) so do a Brim to brim test (lots of posts about it on here). I did and found my computer to tell the truth for a change.

Its also to do with how you drive it. Its physiological that due to spending money on the motor you will without thinking, take more care of it and drive just that little bit softer and more gentle. This will increase your mpg.

What items did you change?

i changed air filter,oil filter,fuel filter,changed oil,flushed out oil coiler,flushed out intercooler,checked axle levels,gearbox level,greased everything with a nipple,(inc wife)
thankyou for your info, and the vehicle is manual gearbox.

I re-set my computer a couple of weeks ago, yesterday I did a 360 mile round trip to Burton and got 17.5 mpg (4.6 gems)(usually 15 mpg) - I was well chuffed, especially as the LPG is cheaper 'up North' - so the trip came out at 15p per mile - my Freelander costs me 17p per mile
