So here's what happened. Car stood a while, disconnected the battery and gave it a charge.

Reconnected the battery, drove car for 20 miles to pick up Mrs from work, everything fine.

Pulled in to car park, stopped, put g'box in 'P'......car park space became available so put car in 'D'.....absolutely nothing in any gear. Gearbox Fault displays on the dash.

Gearbox had a service less than 1000 miles ago, levels all OK.

Car will roll forward and backwards in any gear except P.

Any ideas?

Check battery and alternator conections, make sure the earths are good.
A lot of gearbox faults are caused by a weak battery.
obviously check the gearbox fluid level.....

You will have to get codes read. But as far as i know drive selection is mechanical only changes are electrical. Jimmy Martin is your man.

No reverse

Fluid level is good

is it worth disconnecting the battery and charging?.......it was fairly flat the other day and needed charging

Could be a blocked filter element, this will require the oil draining and the sump removing. fit a new filter, refit sump and top up with oil. Had the oil and filter changed on mine. The oil was grey and the magnet in the bottom was covered in bits of clutch. Now slips in 2nd and 3rd gears. New box arrives Monday. Best of luck with yours, Bazz.

I have 4 spd auto in Off roader and that at the begining had problems with blocked filter, 3 times. Ended up changing the oil cooler, the oil and the filter, the later 2 3 more times. Each time flushing the pipework and cooler just to be on the safe side. Has now run for 4yrs without a blocked filter. On this occasion i blame the old cooler. Bazz.

I'm thinking of letting this go if anyone's interested in collecting it.

Fresh full engine rebuild 1000 miles ago on a pressure tested block provided by Emmotts:
