I'm new on here so appologise in advance if this has been covered to death but i am struggling a bit with this.

I have a GEMS 4.6 1997 with a VIN that has VA359xxx. As I understood it the GEMS uses the Titania sensors and the THOR uses the Zirconia. The problem I have is when I quote my VIN it comes out with the Zirconia type i.e. VA350xxx to WAxxxxxx.

Did the later GEMS come with the Zirconia sensors or do i defo need the Titania?

Thanks in advance

Davy

Just had a look up and your vehicle does indeed fall into a middle band on the sensor part numbers.

The parts website I use comes up with the following:
To (V) VA 350483: ERR1834 [L/R - V8 - Petrol - EFi - Catalyst - except North America]
From (V) VA 350484 To (V) WA 410481: AMR6244 [L/R - V8 - Petrol - EFi - Catalyst - except North America]
From (V) XA 410482: MHK100940 [L/R - V8 - Petrol - EFi - Catalyst - front]

XA410482 was the first of the Thor vehicles, and uses the later Bosch sensors. Your GEMS model obviously uses a different sensor to the first GEMS - but the good news is that a search of AMR6244 comes up with a load of results - Island 4x4 being one of them with the sensors at £37.50+VAT each:

Oxygen Lambda Sensor P38 97-00 AMR6244 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

And is actually cheaper than the earlier version for the 1994-1997:
Oxygen Lambda Sensor P38 94-97 ERR1834 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

And the later type too:
Oxygen Lambda Sensor P38 00-02 (OEM) MHK100940G Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order.

Hope that helps.

Marty Uk, thanks very much for your help. I ordered two from DLS on ebay. She runs sweet as a nut now.

Now have a 2-3 amp load draining the battery when the car is locked! It never ends with this big couch!

Thanks again

I thought that tae. I've done a fair bit of reading and testing but the BECM seems to be going to sleep but there is still 2 amps goin somewhere!

Doin my large head in!

Is there a way of testing the alternator? Also has anyone else heard about an alternator harness upgrade on the 4.6?

Thanks again lads

Just disconnect the alternator to prove if it's that. Make sure the headlamp wipers park properly if fitted.

Sorry - Didn't get the notification there had been a reply!

Glad you are all sorted now, and that the replacement sensors did the trick! And that the alternator was the drain culprit.

Thanks again lads
got the Alternator recon'd for 70 quid. I was gona go with a new one but they're a fortune!

Anyway the car has never run this well since I've owned it. So smooth and fuel consumption has come down, result!!! Next up is a gearbox service then mibe an exhaust system.

Cheers lads
