p38 is this a problem

hi i have the 2.5 bmw straight 6 diesel 1995 model,doesn't seem to like being stood,i left the car for two days came to it started it and it fired and ran on 5 cylinders,after about 2 miles and a bit of a thrashing it ran as smooth as silk,do these need thraping,or can they be driven as a vehicle this size should be and that is with respect,
hope you can help on this:doh:
 
You need to thrash the hell out of it everytime you get behind the wheel specially if it aint running right :doh:

Sounds like it's getting air in the fuel system, check the leak off pipes.
