Hi guys,
I decided to retime my injection pump, stupid I know, but thought it worth a shot! However, after looking through Rave, I've got to the point now where it says to slacken the 2 flange nuts and 1 support bolt, and rotate the pump to time it. I know where these are, but I don't understand how the pump rotates. Has anyone done this, or know how to, that could guide me? Or is anyone local to Grimsby that may be able to offer some assistance? The P38 is currently in pieces across the garage, and I don't want to put it back together the same as it was!!
Thanks, Matt

Wammers is the man for this, from what I understand (not having pulled mine apart as much as you) is towards engine advances and away from the engine retards the timing

have you moved the centre section on the pump??

Update!! Have checked the timing now and its reading at 0.95. Rave says it should be timed to 0.9 for vehicles over 20000 km, but I've read that if its timed to 1mm, that it would cure hotstart. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so, why? Thanks

Timing it to 1 mm means the transfer port is open just that bit more at TDC, that could help hot start problems. The 0.95 is to allow for chain stretch. The standard cam timing also allows for chain stretch. A different cam timing is used for engines with 20,000 Km or more on them. If however the injection pump has little movement left on it's slots maybe taking a look at the chains would be in order. If one breaks you are in deep ****.

Right update changed fuel quantity solenoid timed pump up to 1mm
And not alot of difference! I have re read faults and also have
Number 4 injector fault but was lead to believe that a fault here would result in limp home mode?? Any help wammers/anyone. Cheers matt

Number four injector tells ECU start of injection. ECU uses that info to modulated timing solenoid to fine adjust pump timing for best performance at power RPM levels. If it is faulty you will get low power and roughness around 3000 RPM. The engine lamp will be lit if it is a solid fault. If you had the manifold off make sure the wire is not pinched.
