P38 imobiliser problems, I am sure you have all heard it before.
left range rover a couple of months, obviously battery went flat,
now coming up with engine disabled after I enter key code,
I have used the code before and know it works,
after the dash stops showing lock out, enter code with key,
side light warning lamp comes on with each operation,
all seem ok, try, "engine disabled"

any advice please

I know, must be the most hated part of the p38, great car, but there just doesn't seem to be any sensible reasoning behind system, and no definitive instruction or opperation manual. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh
Make my Christmas, say there is a way to sort this out and explain how it works, please

You need the key and the original hanbook, there will be a 6 digit code ( hopefully ) in the hanbook and you insert the key into the drivers door and follow the procedure turning the key to left and write all though its been a long time since have done this... HTH

Theres some great posts in the rangie section mate, I have had the same problems, I had to refurb the key, new battery and pads, then make sure all doors are closed, put key number 1 in the driver door lock, turn to rear 4 times returning to centre each time. Then use the CKA 4 digit security code, turn the key according to the code numbers ie 1,2,3,4 would be 1 turn fwd, 2 turns rear, 3 fwd etc, finishing with last one turning rearwards this should then reset it, if its after 1996 build, then put the key straight in the ignition and turn to position 2. you should notice imob lights in the middle of dash will be out. try starting it, once started, stop pull key out, make sure barrel closes or it will give key in ignition warning, jiggle the key about to clear that, even press in the silver part of the barrel to un stick it, get out and then lock with push button on remote. As an extra you could even lock with key in door and press lock on remote at same time, as the sensors take position readings and sync it with the buttons. Hope that helps and not to confusing, it took me a week and a replacement button and battery to get it working!!
