Hi,

Looking to change the HT leads on my 2000 4.6 V8 P38..... Any suggestions on the best type??

I have heard Magnecor are supposed to be good but wondered if anyone knew any more, also how much of a job is it replacing them??

Hi....they are a pig......great place to stop water ingress.......and changing of the leads.
Make a careful note of what goes where and then remove what gubbins you need to to get your hand in and only do one at a time.....mine was a 38 and when it went wrong ( i took them off one at a time and still got it wrong.....don't ask...i have no idea how. Rebuilt engines, refitted lpg systems, chassis up rebuild under my belt and still cocked it up ...hey ho) i eventually ended up going back to where i bought it as i could not get a diagram from anywhere and copied from one on the forecourt..........about a month later one of the lovely spark plugs fired itself across the engine bay....yay !!

If you want a laugh you can price up the ones that were fitted to mine (ex Police...still had flashy headlights !!) when i got it which were some kind of super supressed leads as fitted by HM Police.....first quote i got was............£98 + vat.......................each !!

Magnecore leads are great and not as expensive really as you might think for good leads, i paid £90 for mine and they come with a life time guarantee. I was quoted £13.99 each lead + vat at the dealers thats £128.71 for a set with 12 months guarantee.
I didnt find them too bad to fit but i do have small hands.

Hi......when you say a big boost (and it's a genuine question) do you think they're really that good or do you imagine they're that good and do you think that you if you were gentle on the throttle you would get better mpg's.

Cheers.....a very poorly-cold-ridden nick.

I paid £75 for the set from RFi, they fitted them while I had my Rangie down in Norwich when they did the Konis as well. Can't remeber offhand what the VAT and fitting was. Fantastic, the performance difference was instantly recognisable and my driving style never changed, but the fuel consumption went from its usual 19.6 / 20mpg to 22mpg. I know that's not much in the big scheme of things, but its a clear improvement and the engine is very sweet with the new leads, purrs away with a healthy V8 roar. Not a huge outlay in Rangie terms for a very clear performance enhancement!!

Your winning me round to these magnecor... lifetime warranty anorl aswell as a little extra mpg, Think i'll be putting oem on the p38 cos i aint keeping it but may well get the magnecor for me disco when i get round to it :)

Expensive ones, of course! :) Jokes aside, they're NGK - can't remember the exact plug specs and its tooo cold and dark to check now - cost a lot more than the cheapies, but the cheapies are like buying car boot speaker cables for a set of Wharfdales and a Denon amp......

For those guys out there with Magnecor leads, have you fitted the 8.0mm (Blue) leads or the 8.5mm(red) leads.

Have seen both advertised recently and wondered if the larger were better, I'm running the THOR engine with gas, and have all the fun of getting down the back of the block to look forward too
