P38, heated seats, advice please!

Hi.
I have looked in the previous threads, but i cant find what im looking for.
There are posts relating to the heated seats, but cant find what im looking for.
I have heated seats in my 2000 2.5dhse and they dont appear to be working.
Ive read that the light on the Hevac unit will illuminate even if they dont work, as it is only a signal to the Becam. This appears to be the case with mine!
Basically, what fuse is the heated seats?? what relay is the heated seats, and where physically can i find them??

With this cold weather, i got into my car the other morning and almost leaped out again once i sat on the seats!

Any advice is highly appreciated! many thanks in advance

Fuse box in engine bay, behind battery, fuse 30 & 32. Both 30Amp
Fuse box in side of right hand seat. open drivers door and u will see a little flap in your seat trim. fuse 2 - 30A. If this on goes your display will tell you. I think the relays are in yhe becm if not in the engine fuse box. your heating elements may have been damaged. Very common on RR. Mine dont work either.

Sorry to be the bearer of possible bad news but mine are the same and I found a thread wif a link to another site that escapes me. It usually is the actual elements in the seats that go. You can replace them if you are willing to strip the seats bare (foam n all) and renew the elements. Big job.
If I find the link I'll post. It looked staight forward enough but very time consuming.
Have a look at rangerovers.net, I think it was on there where I saw it.
As for the Hevac symbol showing because of the seats, I don't think that is the case as mine isn't on and my heated seats don't work.
Fuses are under the drivers seat (side, behind a little door) open the drivers door and look down near the base of the seat. Relays are under the bonnet left hand side.
Good luck, hope it is just a fuse.

As has been said it is probably the elements not in the bck rest but the seat squab they are in the centre of the foam it is a bit fiddley to do but does work I will see if I can find the link it is on here as thisiis where i got it from.
You can get to the cable supplying power to the elements pretty easily to check if there is power am afraid it is prob a break in the element when i stripped mine out there were 5 breaks in one and 2 in the other

just done mine this very evening, beneath the seats are (at least in my 1996 p38 4.0 se, non electric seats) two plugs, a small one and a big one, one is for the back(small) and one is for the squab (large) now the power flows into the squab and then into the back (in series, if you like) now you can disconnect the plugs and check with a multimeter or power to the plugs, remember to put one probe in each plug omitting the wire that joins the two plugs. turn engine on and switch seat on, i used a couple of bits of wire and a bulb to achieve this test as i had no multimeter.

once you establish you have power to the plugs you can connect one plug and test the other plug, no power will mean the element in that part of the seat is blown and needs replacing or the plug needs bridging with a scotch block or one of those electrical connectors. if you use a bit of wire and leccy tape make sure it is substantial as you wouldn't want heat bulding up in the wires!!!

this will get either the squab or more likely the back working again, it'll take the pressure off till you can do a full repair/replacement as in above posts, should take about 30 mins for both seats!!

Sorry, i didnt mean the Hevac had a symbol on, i meant the light to say the heated seat is switched on illuminates, suggesting it is working, but it isnt.

Oh yeah I see what you mean now. The light will come on the panel to make you think yer bum is gonna get warm then you wait a while and then start pushing the button in and out watching the light go on and off thinking, funny the lights working but my butt aint feeling any heat.

The Orange light by the switch will come on to say the switch has been activated. Which means the switch has power and an earth!

Mine also don't work hence me finding this thread.

I can hear the relay click when the switch is pressed, so guessing the low load side of the relay works. Going to check the High load side next by seeing if there is any power to the inlet connector under the seat (After checking the fueses!) but my guess is looking at the photo on the link that the element has been broken.

Anyone know what spec wire is used? Thinking that if it comes to stripping out the seats then I will replace all the wire/element to ensure it out lives my ownership!
