I have a 1995 Range Rover, P38, 2.5 Diesel. I was driving on the highway and made a mistake by changing the gears from high to low while vehicle was in motion. there was loud sound at the front and the vehicle broke the fan wings which hit the radiator and the fan housing. the Engine is OK and when i put on Drive it works just fine. the following morning when i tried to engage drive position, there was free play even when i put it to 3, 3, 1. When i put it back to drive position it engaged. it is in the garage now but am worried i could have damaged the transmission. i drove it abit and it looks just fine. anybody has experience on this?

What data is saying is a faulty RF can still wake the becm so if your still getting problems try replacing it with a new unit. Lots of things can cause battery drain there a thousands of threads on it. I found that fitting a solar charger to keep the battery topped up all the time sorted all my problems. Maplins do a good selection, or fleabay.

That does sound like a good idea considering the consequences of battery drain. How did you do it?

Bit of a bloody silly trick. There should be an inhibit which stops that happening until you are moving below 5 mph. You could have knackered a lot of things.

Was about to say, surely there's something to stop people doing that? Similarly, is there something to stop you shifting into reverse, or too low a gear when moving fast?
