Hi All just changed the transfer box front output bearing on my 1999 DSE.
Points noted when doing the job
I used a 9/16 propshaft tool to remove the front propshaft bolts. Cannot see how I would have done the job without!
The 30mm nut on the front flange is very very tight. The flange needs to be locked by a locking bar placed through the propshaft bolts to undo the 30mm nut as it just turns the VCU if you don't.
I did not need a puller to remove the flange it pulled off easily.
You do not need the remove the cross member, just undo all the mounting nuts and bolts (15mm) and jack up the transfer box to remove the left hand transfer box mounting.
The bearing housing comes out with no problem after removing the 6 x 15mm bolts
The bearing is part number RTC6025 but simply buy a type 6207 C3. This bearing size is used in Series land rover gearboxes and LT230 transfer boxes.
The bearing is a tight fit in the housing and needs to be driven out with force.
Rebuilding is easier just remember to use good gasket sealant on the bearing housing to stop ATF leaks.
The whole job lasted 4 hours, and a hook type bearing puller did not work!
