P38 diesel, engine died on motorway. Got recovered. Garage said when they managed to start it, engine revved uncontrollably. Believed it to be governor on diesel pump. Changed, same thing, no change.
Now suspected head gasket or injectors, any really know what it could be ??

this is in the wrong section btw but it sounds like runaway, usually when the turbo is ****ed, starts running on its own oil untill BANG can also happen if someone puts too much oil in.

A diesel engine speeds up if you give it more fuel. You've got two sources of fuel, your diesel tank and your engine sump. If it's over-running on diesel then your FIP is fubared. If it's running on engine oil (as well), coming through the turbo, your dipstick should tell you.
As the engine conked out to start all this my money's on the pump because a faulty turbo causing runaway should have happened when everything was nice and hot on the motorway and the engine might even have been unstoppable until the sump oil was used up, and they usually self destruct quite convincingly.
