right i am biting the bullet,rangie is going in for a new dmf,what else is worth doing while this is being done,are the sensors worth replacing,is there anything else to look for while the gearbox is out? need as much info as i can get,may be a good time to change starter motor too,as it is a bit slow.can the crank pulley also cause poor running?
 
Check the condition of the clutch if it shows any signs of wear change it (pilot bearing, fiction plate and pressure plate) and a definate change even if theres no sign of damage/wear are the 2 spiral pin (about 3 quid from a dealer)that hold/locate the clutch release fork to the cross-shaft.

Maybe the gearbox input shaft oil shaft.

All other parts can be changed in situ...
