p38 drivers door latch

hi

my drivers door latch failed and locked the car, i have replaced the latch with a new one from Island 4x4 but now have another problem the drivers door will lock and unlock with the button inside but using the key from out side it will only unlock, it wont lock with the key also i cant input the code for the key fob

is there a time delay i have to wait after fittng the new latch or do i have a faulty latch or is my door out station faulty as well?

have removed battery for charging, just might be power related

my other thought is that it thinks the key is in the ignition and wont let me lock the car but it would say so in dash

firstly i would check your work, i suspect you may have missed something or not got something quite right!

i also thought that at first, but as the lock in the key side will unlock but not lock and as its the same rod that does both jobs says its connected but just incase i removed that rod and worked it by hand with the same results,

why is it i have replaced the lock been unable to input the code but if i put key in ingition the car will start

a similar thing happened to a fellow forum member, if you take the lock out again, plug it in whilst in yer hand and turn the mechansism almost to breaking point.

you might aswell strip it down and free off the internals/re grease em whilst its off, also clean plugs!

does it need pluged into testbook to clear anything afer a KEY CODE LOCKOUT?

no you just need to input the eka code via the door lock!!!

i think one of the micro switches inside is either faulty or dirty and as i purchased it new i will return it for a refund and try again, will go to main dealer this time though

what was wrong with yer old one? do you still have it? often just stripping and fiddling with the internals can revive em, it has on mine!

on the old one i was inputing the code and the micro switch must have stuck and clicked in 10 turns which instantly cut power to the lock so i could no longer try the code

i suspect a strip and working all the internals with a bit of vaseline would have freed it all off!!

on the car i mean!!!! (thats before you all start)

i removed the new latch and worked the lock by hand for 10 min then pluged it back in, everthings now working so must have been just needing working in
