Just got a nice second hand LR dog guard with fittings off ebay.

There's 4 bolts, 2 plastic fittings and the bar.

Trouble is, when I go to screw the fitting in, there are holes in the steel behind the headlining, but no threads!

Do these come new with some kind of push-in captive nut? Where to get them from quickly?

they are a special nut.that you can buy and u will need a tool

the name of it escapes me

will check back through some posts i made on it and list the link here

fiiting is not too bad. u have to cut the headlining and then stick the nut thing in the hole and use the tool on it.
Make sure you bottom it out before you use the tool

If all else fails you can use a Rivnut tool, I think they call it a blind nut, it goes in like a rivet but is thereaded to whatever diameter bolt you want. Most body shops would have one, they might give you a lend.

If you're in SW Ireland I have one for up to 6mm bolt

a bolt, a nut, some washers and a drilled out nut make a fine insertion tool

I'd go with Seans suggestion, you can buy the blind nuts in most engineer supplies/motor factors. Not to be outdone by Sean on inventiveness you can easily do it with a deep socket (might not even need a deep socket if you have the room and a bolt of the appropriate length) with a vice grip on it, job done.

What you reckon Sean :)

Thanks to all.

I bought a nutsert tool off ebay. 10 minutes with that and it's done. Looks real nice too :)
