p38 diesel, rattle

Hi,got a strange rattly noise only starts at 2500rpm and goes at about 3500,not long had the car and its done it since i've had it,thought at first that it may have been a heat shield,but it goes once its fully warmed up,was thinking that it could be tappets any ideas would be much appreciated,thx

Mines exactly the same, have tried oil changes,engine flush,hydralic lifter treatment in a bottle,good quality oil etc but it still does it,i reckon its one of them little niggles i can live with.

Check for diesel pipes and such rattling against each other.
I had a terminal sounding death rattle at 2500rpm that turned out to be just that. There are little plastic pieces that are supposed to keep the pipes seperate. Check to see if all of these are in place and make sure that all the pipes are not touching.

hi, ive only had my 2.5dse 2 weeks and its done this since i got it, ive not had much experiance with this car but ive just put it down to being a bit of derv knock when cold. , could this be right ?

i had a rattle and it was doing my tits in until i traced it to the exhaust bracket and body bracket touching, 2 mins with a crow bar sorted it straight out!!!!
