I have recently purchased a 1995(N) 4.0SE Automatic which has cut out on several occassions without any warning (VERY DANGEROUS!). Each time it has cut out it has taken around 20 attempts/10 minutes to restart. This morning I started it in my driveway (from cold and started first turn), I left it idling for about 5 minutes then it cut out. It took about 20 attempts to restart (it was starting but then cutting out immediately), I then moved it about 10 yards when it cut out again - I tried 10 times to restart it but no joy! I then contacted an auto electrician who came to the vehicle within an hour - IT STARTED FIRST TIME AND RAN WITHOUT PROBLEM FOR THE HOUR THE ELECTRICIAN WAS THERE:rolleyes: I then took it out for a few test drives and it performed perfectly! Has anybody had a similar problem? I am 25 miles and a short ferry crossing from the nearest Land Rover Specialist with diagnostic equipment and I am not keen to drive the 25 miles (mostly motorway) while there is a danger of the engine cutting out!! Any comments would be very helpful. Thanks, Kenny

Hi Dave, thanks for the info. A LR Specialist looked at it today and a fault with the fuel pressure regulator has been diagnosed. Many thanks for your help. Regards, Kenny

Following the replacement fuel pressure regulator - it would not start the next morning    !!!!

A replacement CRANK SENSOR was required and it now runs perfectly :) :) :) !!!!

A £20 part and about £300 to diagnose the fault    !!!!

thats interesting i thought they went into lockdown with a bad crank sensor , glad you got it sorted how did they diagnose the fuel regulator?

Hi Dave, I would have thought the computer would have done something as the situation I experienced was VERY dangerous! The fuel pressure regulator showed up on the T4 diagnostic report as faulty (as did the crank sensor but the first garage chose to repair the fuel regulator). Anyway it's going fine now. Cheers, Kenny
