p38 coil conversion

Can maintain system by changing air dryer, depressurising system remove tank bung to check for dampness and changing intake and exh filters. Also a good idea to pop off sensors at sus arm end to check they are not getting stiff or rough this catching any probs before they let you down. On the coil subject I personally am not a fan of the handling on converted vehicles and more impotantly if they are converted to coils they must be insured as a modified vehicle because land rover never had a coil option.

im not saying one better than another as there are at least 2 types of people that own p38s ,those that have all documents ,bills .dates of work in nice folder and those that dont,but you have given some good maintentance tips

Not just the P38 debate, know a guy who replaced his hydraulic set up on his landcruiser and gets all types of greif on the forum and his motor is exceptional as he has spend thousands on it, as he said the only thing that can go wrong with a coil spring is if it breaks, with other types of set ups there is a mutitude of things to go wrong, fine if your an enthusiast with time and knowlege. I keep mine well maintained as bears out on the MOT 2 weeks ago when it needed nothing done, but just could not trust the EAS when going any distance, cos when they are down on the bump stops its one dangerous and uncumftorable ride. By the way on the non adjustable headlights, in the year that my coils have been on I have not been flashed once in the dark and have run with just me in it and up to 5 adults and snow boarding gear. If I had another one I would change it at the first sign of trouble but that is me and I had the luxury of trying a mates that had been converted first.

The self levelling lamps is a bit of a red Herring as far as MOT is concerned. European law, which is the basis of the new MOT rules, states that any vehicle fitted as standard with HID lamps must have self levelling lamps. It would be a fail if a vehicle WITHOUT self levelling lamps had HID lamps fitted to it. A Range Rover with EAS self levels, so it could be argued that it would be ok to fit after market HID lamps. And pass an MOT. A Range Rover on coils fitted with HID lamps would fail.
