P38 central locking confirmation please!

Hi there!
Not new to the forums but newly joined up member!
I have a defender and disco but I just bought a 1997 p38 2.5dse yesterday so no surprise I'm posting a thread today

When using the key fob the drivers door sometimes locks/unlocks and sometimes doesn't. All other doors and alarm work normally.

After reading the hundreds of threads I am fairly sure this is a driver door actuator that is needed? Do you think this is right? Is there any way of repairing the one I have or just get a new one?

If your going to take it off mate just replace it with a new one. I rebuilt one when mine went but it was bloody hard and by the time Id finished I'm not sure it was worth the time/effort! Anyway I took it off and bought two new ones for the front.

No problem... Have you checked your RF receiver? These often cause locking issues...

If it works sometimes, it may just need a clean and lube as the grease hardens with age.

I think the actuator changed around that time. The old ones had a separate plug with a single black wire in it. Later ones had a single plug.

When I first took my driver's door card off someone hadn't put the cable-clips back properly and the black wire was being caught by the electric window mechanism and was breaking down the wire inside. Didn't take long to fix.
