hi
dust seal just fits into a grove, a bit like a circlip, but the grove is hidden by the piston, one of mine has been gone for a while now,it sticks a bit, can't be bothered to strip them so i treated the rangie to a brand new pair of calipers just got to fit them now

I cannot see how you can change a dust seal without removing the piston. Anyway if a dust seal is gone do the whole job right and rebuild the calipers.
If you buy a seal kit, only get genuine LR parts. I made the mistake of buying pattern seals and 3 out of 4 I damaged trying to get the pistons back in on the Front calipers. Then bought the LR parts and re-assembled with no problems at all. It's not at all difficult and the LR seal kit is cheap enough anyway. You even get new grease for the pins. If you are really anal about your brakes as I am you will clean and paint your calipers while you are at it.
