hi there; I have a range rover p38 and the brake block anr2239 failed. I bought the same block in eBay motors but I received a anr2238 block instead. I installed the piece and the brakes work nicely but the brake ligths are on all the time. I ask if any body knows if changing the block anr 2239 for the block anr2238 results in the brake ligths on all the time.

Check your brake light switch is set properly as to the instructions in RAVE which if you have a p38 you should have downloaded by now.

If you change the modulator then you need to change the ECU as well. One has traction control, the other doesn't. As others have said you need to adjust the brake-light switch as you'll have mucked it up when you changed out the modulator. Whatever you do, don't stick the later 4W TC unit on earlier cars.

There are three setups. No TC, Rear wheel TC and Four wheel TC. As far as i know ANR2238 is rear wheel TC and ANR2239 is four wheel TC. Will have to look at Microcat when i get a chance.

Anr2238 is no traction control anr2239 is 2 wheel traction control

Ok i cannot get on Microcat for some reason today, so will take that as read. However whilst that will effect TC it will not effect brake lights. They have nothing to do with which ABS unit is fitted. It can only be the switch.

The switch was my take on it and have mentioned it in both his posts, iirc he mentioned the plunger was not touching the peddle which sounds wrong to me.

Plunger must be pulled out and whilst refitting pedal depressed. Switch is fitted touching pedal then pedal is allowed back up to set switch. There are two circuits in the switch one is made and one is broken alternately when the pedal is either depressed or released the switches swap senses.

Yes, suspect switch but I'm more worried about him using the wrong modulator with the wrong ECU and going splat when he needs it most.

He then needs to check if ABS is working by braking on a loose or low friction surface. As long as that works he will be fine, if not he will have to adjust his driving style as required.
