Hi all. Iv got a shiny new battery in my garage all ready to put on my rangey. Am i likely to encounter any problems after i disconnect the old one and change over? I changed the battery on a car in the past and it caused all sorts of strife with the computer after reconnecting. Its a 1995 p38 4.0 petrol. If this topics been covered before I'm sorry but i have had a good look. Cheers.

Make sure it's unlocked and wind the window down and keep the door open. Then disconnect the battery and reconnect the new one.

Then all you should have to do is resync the key by either pressing the lock button on the remote then locking with the key, or if you have a later model year (can't remember which, someone will probably come along and say) just put the key into the ignition and unlock.

Until I got myself a gen3 rf receiver I had to constantly swap batteries to replace the flattened one and each time needed the eka code inputted. All doors need to be closed as well as the bonnet and hatch. I did read an old post here which suggested so long as the battery was disconnected within 15 seconds of switching off the ignition all woukd be well when fitting a battery once again but I couldn't make this work for me. Cant see how I could get it wrong neither but thought I'd mention it!

If the car was locked with the fob then opened with the key because the battery was flat and would not operate the locking system from the fob you will need the EKA code. Because when the battery went flat the alarm was active. If you need to disconnect a fully charged battery there should not be a problem if done correctly. But you MUST follow the procedure in RAVE if you have a BBUS unit or the unit will sound for 4.5 minutes when battery is disconnected. Slacken negative lead but leave on battery. Switch ignition on then off and disconnect battery within 17 seconds. At no time leave keys in ignition with doors shut whilst connecting a battery specially if you only have one key. You have been warned.

You can always use a second battery in parallel with jump leads if the first one isn't completely dead. That way nothing gets affected.

Can do but it should not be required. Only reason to do that when changing a battery would be to retain radio codes and ancillary equipment settings. Some work needs battery to be disconnected. Best find out how to do it properly. :);)

When I replaced mine, the new battery had the terminals on the bottom (original at the top) and the cables wouldn't stretch that far down. Got two extention leads and wrapped the old old ones in electrical tape and it was sorted.

Wrong battery then.

Thanks for all the advice. Couldn't try it today in the end as i really shagged my back up this morning changing wheel on my caravan as getting it all up together to sell. Currently laying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself. Its amazing the damage you can do to yourself doing something so simple.
