Hi everyone - first post - I have only just joined the site but have been visiting it for several months now and know there are a lot of knowledgable folk on here so am hoping one of you can help me?

I am looking for a P38 and have seen a decent one but it is the base level 4.0 with no cruise control and cloth seats. Is it possible to retrofit cruise control if I get hold of the steering wheel switches or is it more complicated than that? Same for the seats, if I get hold of a set of leather electric heated seats with harness is it a straight plug n play? Are there any other differences in a base model when compared to a HSE spec model?

I appreciate your help and I hope to be joining the club and buying my first P38 very soon!

Anything is possible, depends on how much time/money/skill you have. Suspect with those two and coupled to the fact you've not bought anything yet that it would be cheaper/easier to look out for an SE spec from the start.

Don't bother. You can get a nice P38 with all the toys for sensible money now. There doesn't seem to be much of a price difference between all the specs.

Upgrading yours would involve changing the BeCM and a load of other bits if you want everything to work, and the cruise control rarely works anyway.

My advice would be simply to buy a P38 to the spec you desire.

Due to 4x4's being very un PC right now, and the fact the P38 is showing its age, your more likely to pick up an HSE for cheap and in good nick too.

How much is the one your looking at?

Thanks for your advice guys. It just seems to be a good one. '96 15000 on an new engine (LR fitted) approx. 75k total with 10 main dealer services last one about 1000 miles ago. Just had new air springs and compressor for 3.5k. Does this seem good value? Should I gorget about the luxuries of leather and cruise and just concentrate on getting a clean relaible P38?

Thanks again.

You should be able to pick up an HSE with all the goodies already on it for the same price. That's not a good price for a basic even though it has had some bits done recently.

Ok - thanks again. Guess I'll keep looking, may also consider a disco ES. I have time to keep looking but I just want to get one straight away now I've decided to invest (not sure if that's an appropriate word which may end up costing me a small fortune!). Definitely looking for petrol with the aim to convert to LPG. I've always fancied a V8 and it seems with the way things are going with the government now's the time. Also with the way diesel prices are going it'll probably be the cheaper option anyway!

No doubt I'll be back for some more advice very soon!
