P38 - Air conditioning drainage

Hi experts

I have a wet drivers side floor.

I'm hoping its an air con drainage issue, instead of the o ring issue (i don't see any loss of coolant).

I've done my reasearch and got under the car, the bottoms of both air con drains look okay, i tried getting an old coat hanger up them but failed miserably due to the angle.

Where are the tops of these drains can I poke something down them? or poor drain unblocker or something down them?

alternatively any other theories on wet carpets appreciated.

yep thats a great thread, i'll check the sun roof as well!

can be hard work finding info sometimes, do you search for AC, air con, air conditioning, damp carpet, wet carpet, wet drivers floor etc...

any way if any one else seaches not at least this should pop up

Advisable not to poke too hard with the coat hangers as the tubes are made of rubber, and if you haven't got a hole in them, a coat hanger can soon give you one.
Wet carpet on drivers side, my guess is that it is the heater 'o' rings. You didn't say where you looked for loss of coolant. If you only looked in the expansion tank, then you will probably not notice any difference.
My advice would be to get a torch, get your head amongst your pedals and look up towards the heater core, in the morning when the engine is cold, you may see wetness or white traces on the heater just below where the pipes go into the matrix.
I had a serious problem with my 'o' ringssome time ago. Sometimes during the day I looked and found no traces. But after further inv. the leak seemed to be more apparent in the morning. I bought some K-Seal from Kalimex.co.uk , amazing stuff, after a couple of days in the system, all traces of leak had gone, and that was half a year ago. You only needs one bottle, as it stays active in the water system. I emptied some water out of the top hose and poured some in there and some in the expansion tank. Its worth investing in, in any case, as it will stop future minor leaks.
The Kalimex site does state if poured into the top tank then it will take longer to get to the leak.

Great you found the two drain tubes but failed to insert a coat hanger. Where are the tubes located in the 2001 Range Rover 4.6HSE?

It is behind the side panel, top of transmission tunnel, at the engine end. You might be able to reach it, just, without pulling the panel.

Put your hand up either side of the bellhousing and you should feel the rubber bulb ends of the drain tubes. Give them a squeeze and you should get an arm full of water if the are blocked. As already posted do NOT poke a coat hanger up them, it will cause damage.

Push your fingers up between the foot well air vent and carpet. if it's damp and smells of glycol it's the O rings. Should also be green (or whatever colour your coolant is) if you blot it with a paper towel. Stuff a paper towel up between the air vent and carpet and see if it gets wet.
