Hello

Does anyone know what might be the cause of the "! and handbook sign" warning?

It seems to come on from time to time, sometimes after the system has been running for a few minutes, sometimes half an hour or so.

I know that it means "refer to handbook", but the handbook just tells you to go to a dealer!

The system does warm up the car and cools it according to how it is set, so that seems to be working.

I would just like to know what are the possible causes please?

Thanks

it could be anything from a blend motor to a sensor not being happy a quick check is to turn the control to manual select 28 heat does it get hot then try the fan speeds do they work try all the differant fan output ie to floor to windscreen then try it on 16 cooling if it flashs up then , then you've the same problems as mine had a lost of gas on the air conditioning side any problems then get back to me as i've had mine apart twice aready this year and i'm a a/c enginner:rolleyes:

Thanks Martyn

Heater does get hot when turned up. Cool when turned down. Fan works ok. Also had gas checked and pressure is fine apparantly. However, I don't really notice much difference to where the heat / cold air goes when I press the buttons that are supposed to direct the air flow. No matter what I select it just seems the same output.

Is that normal?

If not, does anyone know a fix please?

Have had my friendly garage look at the car and they can sort everything except the air con system

Can you let me know what the outcome is as I think I have the same!

HANDBOOK !

Hevac issues on Lp RR's can only really be sorted out with testbook or similar, live data displays usually tell the story, and the ability to force outputs quickly tell whats wrong. The only time they are misleading is when the distribution flap sticks when the engine is cold. The box swells up a bit when hot and the motor is then strong enough to operate the flap.Whilst you can do continuity tests etc on the wiring, there is no real substitute for seeing it as the Hevac Ecu see's it.(Not the most reliable Ecu on an Lp)

Thanks for all the help and encouraging messages here and privately.

The issue continues.

After getting the system checked by a Landrover Specialist with all the correct kit he suggested that it was most likely the blend motors which are not very expensive in themselves but generate a huge labour charge to get at them and replace.

However, this did not cure the problem, it now seems that the flaps, or one of the flaps is malfunctioning and not sending air to the correct place.

So it looks like another huge bill for labour as the unit hads to be removed again.

This should happen today, I will let you know how things proceed from here

At last I have the car back fixed. After a change of blend motors (which did not help) and a change of heater box (same) it turned out to be the control unit. A very small and simpple resistor had blown. It seems that the unit was showing a fault everywhere but itself!

Hello
I have a similar problem, the book sign is on, I have run through all the functions and it cools both sides but dosn't heat the passenger side. Will this be the l/h blend motor?
Regards
Mik

Guess what?
It worked for a whole three journeys, one of 160 miles and the other two just to the shops down the road and it's back again!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it has also developed another new fault, the cruise control has stopped working. The steering wheel switches have all been changed, the gizmo has been connected to the car and says that all switches are functioning as they should but so cruise control:(
I think that after 8 happy years of classic ownership, and now 8 months of very unhappy P38 ownership I am falling out of love with Range Rovers

Mik

It could be the blend motor, they seem to change them for fun

The come as a complete set of three so one down all down

Hope that you have better luck than me!

Hi
Ihave just bought Rovacom Lite and ran it on mt p38 hevac and got l/hand blend motor shorted to positive. This looks like a new blend motor the good news is I have a l/r warranty which covers this. So I will get the o rings done at the same time.
Regards
Mik

This is getting silly

The system works, then doesn't work

Returns deifferent faults with different control front panels when they are fitted to the car

Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?

Mik,

Might want to check the vacuum hoses on the actuator in the engine bay. My cruse control wasnt working and all the electrical systems were fine. turned out the hoses had split. A simple five minuite job to replace them and easy to get to.
