Hi wonder if anyone can help me?

I have a 1998 P38 with the 2.5 BMW engine, can you tell me how to adjust the air con belt?

Mant thanks

Download RAVE.

or

1. Disconnect battery negative lead.

2. Raise the vehicle. WARNING: Support on safety stands.

3. Remove cover from tensioner pulley. Slacken pulley bolt.

4. Rotate tensioner pulley clockwise. Apply following tension:
New belt = 8 Nm. (6 lbf.ft)
Existing belt = 6 Nm. (4 lbf.ft)

5. Tighten pulley bolt whilst applying correct load.

6. Fit cover to tensioner pulley.

7. Remove safety stands. Lower vehicle.

8. Reconnect battery negative lead.

-Wills :)

The pulley has a socket for a 10mm hex key, once the bolt is loosened off you insert the allen key and turn the pulley to apply tension. You'd need a 10mm hex bit on a torque wrench to measure the tension, or could turn until it feels about right. The belt can be a bugger to get on, but it does go on eventually!

Ok so iv removed the tensioner completly and am trying to re fit but there are two threded holes one on top of the other, with ine is the correct one for the tensioner. Thanks.

Maybe you shouldnt be comenting on posts if your a dick head!

Appreciated Grrrrrr
I knon how it works iv loosened it behind the fan to replace the air con belt and undone too much so it fell out.
There are two hole on top of each other all i need to know is does it go on the top or bottom one to get the right tension again.
Not realy rocket science just thort in a land rover forum someone would be to help with a simple fix.

You need to learn some respect for a very knowledgeable member with over 49,000 posts on this forum.

If you have removed a part of the car and don't know how to put it back, then as commented, you shouldn't be taking things off in the first place.

The very least you should do is read the RAVE manual and follow the instructions contained within.....

Landyzone is not your normal forum, it is full of extremely knowledgeable people who will take the p!$$ and ridicule, but will also give you some of the best advice you will ever likely receive. A thick skin is required and I point you to the Welcome Post at the head of the main forum which expalins the 'inner workings' of what is probably the worlds leading and best forum on the internet for all things Land Rover related.

Now wind yer neck in, learn the ropes and once you have built a reputation for yourself on here, then you can go round and start calling one of the most senior and respected members on here a dickhead.

Personally, I wouldn't say it is Wammers that is the dickhead.

Dont care how much you can bash a keybord or who you are dont be so rude in the first place if you cant take it back.
I think you need to read back the thread - who was rude first?

Wammers certainly wasn't, all he said was if your not sure what your doing, don't do it, which I think we can all agree is sage advice.....you're the one who retorted with rudeness and name calling.

FYI

The 'gas' that is used in AC units is being changed and the new gas is not compatible with old systems ...
