Any ideas on what this noise is?

Only happens when driving along with revs above 2000. Doesn't happen if rev engine in neutral.

Could it be something in the cats? As just fitted some used sports cats. I thought it was the exhaust banging on the cross member but padded that out and still same problem.

Car drives fine. Been towing this weekend.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Sounds like something loose rotating to me, not cats, prop UJ shot maybe, hope it's not big ends:eek:

Didn't do it before cats changed.

Did grease the uj at the same time. No play in them then.

Car performs as normal.

I have original cats so will be swapping them back to eliminate.

The noise is definitely linked to revs.

Ok old cats put back on and same problem.

Had car on axle stands. In gear rotating the wheels no noise.

Grabbed and shook propshafts no movement.

Started engine and can hear a knocking at idle. Left hand side of the engine. Rev it and can hear it no and then but not constant.

Took serp belt off to check pulleys and seems to be a fair bit of play in the water pump shaft.

This water pump is only 2 months old.

Noticed tiny bit of coolant on the water pump. Looks like coming from just under the water pump shaft. No overheating issues at all. But could the play in the shaft causing that noise?

Arghhhhh

Got my old one in a box if you want to swap it over for testing. It doesn't work mind. :)

Thanks for the offer, I ordered OEM one from island last night as not happy with the play in it anyway so need to replace it. Just hope it hasn't damaged the water pump.

Shall see if it is the cause..

Will remove the bell housing inspection plate today and see if the flex plate is ok.. Is there a particular test or is it just a visual inspection while hand cranking the engine?

Ok took the Access plates off this afternoon and found this:

Also from the drive plate view. Not much to see but few photos

I'm thinking possible bolt come loose and rattled around the housing causing all those marks?

Also what is that that is actually marked?
