Went for the filler cap in the body as previous ranger rover with LPG had it affixed to the rear bumper, which flexes with the weight the filler nozzle resulting in the need for one person to hold the nozzle straight on some pumps (twist to lock) and the other to hold the refill button on the pump.

The hole on the body is no issue

1. its colour coded included in the cost
2. i wont be removing the system (and anyway the fitment requires modification to the inlet manifold so why complain about a fitment to the bodywork when there's one to the engine) and
3. if by some bizarre reason it was removed it's not big issue to seal the hole and have the panel painted. (which it wont anyway, as if the LPG system is removed it will need a new inlet manifold so the hole in the body is in fact a non issue)

Also for the DVLA and insurance the system has to be fitted by registered installer with certificate, so in doing it yourself you run the risk of invalidating your insurance and cannot register the car as LPG with the DVLA. Further once the system is installed, it needs to be set up to the car and the tuned appropropriately and for that the software is needed.

Remember that LPG is highly volatile, and paying to have a certified, registered installer, with warranty and support is more valuble than going up in a gas ball explosion or significant damage to the engine.

and only BP filling stations seem to provide long enough hoses to reach both sides.

The ettiquete does seem to be improving, i always move away from the pump to allow the next person filler access rather then go in and do a weekly shop for 15 minutes, while blocking the pump.. it seems many other LPG users do the same now.

You beat me to it. The holes in the engine are more of an issue than the hole in the bumper. It's not like you are ever going to remove an LPG system - apart from, perhaps, to install a better one!

The people who did mine did a cracking job too. Usually the looms from the supplier are of a standard length, but on their installs they custome fit the loom to the car rather than have excess wire bunched up or rolled up under the bonnet.

Did so much running around the south of England looking at installers and their systems before making a choice.

Went for the BRC system as the installer who could fit other types suggested that was the one better suited to the vehicle, and i have had no complaints on either car with the install or the system and people that have asked to see the install have all commented on the high standard of work.
 
The holes drilled into the inlet manifold can simply be plugged,rather than a 2 inch hole to fill then repaint in the rear quarter panel ,system will probably always be on but I still think it looks crap on quarter panel ,if landrover did a factory install I don't think that's where they would put it ,spoils the look in my opinion
 
My mechanic fits LPG systems. He converted his '98 4.0 SE & fabricated the filler behind the petrol filler flap. A very neat job.
For pure convenience i still prefer mine next to the towhook.

It can be placed in the filler recess, however some models are double skinned there.

The previous LPG RR we had had the LPG filler located in the bumper panel, however it tends to not only pick up road crap there, but also the wieght of the filler flexes the plastic significantly and some fillers, more often the twist type are bastards to make connection for filling.

I really dont figure the freak out with having a hole drilled in the body work, it's about the least problematic for use and easiest place for body repair if by some insane stretch of the imagination that petrol suddenly comes down in price to match LPG or better.

I've needed more bodywork repair on other cars from some dumbass in a supermarket carpark slinging their doors open and creasing a panel. !

The subject is, LPG - do it or not .. I will say do it, why we shoud pay more if we can pay less.. its not about wheder you rich or poor. Its about wise choice to travel for less. Today LPG systems are way smarter then 10-15 years ago... and yes you can have lpg fitted for 1.4k in V8.

As mentioned : Autogas 1000 in Cheshire did a superb install on mine.
F1 Automotive in Bolton know their stuff also.
 
Go to Eba.. y and take a serch just type lpg conversion there is many advert and easy to find V8 for 1250 GBP fitted, just make a reserch.

Really! You would go with someone advertising on ebay? Cost should NEVER be the priority with installing an LPG system!
 
LPG system to V8 cost about 300 to 800 GBP , rest of it its just a profit.
You think if someone charge you 1000 GBP more its better ?
There is a lot of Polish instalers, where in Poland they make and design own kits, they have more then 25 years experience in fiting that systems. In that country LPG is very popular they have many many more gas station, where here in UK its just maybe 10% to compare. Dont be ignorant.
UK prices for LPG kits are way overcharged. No one wil tell you that cos its their profit, and laibor cost more. But the true is that LPG kit are cheap.
Time ago in 2010 I had audi A4 2003 and I fit LPG in Poland Stag 300 I think 4 cyl engine. It cost me 390 GBP fited with certificate and filler hiden where is petrol cap. When I back to UK I went to some guy who fit LPG and he say he dont even buy that LPG kit for that price what I had fitted in my car.

Tell me how its possible to have Prins lpg in V8 fited in Eastern Europe for 1200 GBP fitted where in UK they charge twice much for same kit ??? Both instalers make profit, no one fit it for free here or abroad. So if foreginer buy lpg kits and instal them in UK and charge you less it means he dont know what he's doing or lpg kit is rubish ???

Take a look most of instalation done in UK .. ugly rusty hole in car body for GBP2000 + .. in Europe they were kill you laughing for that job.

You can knock or insult the installation i have as much you like, you havn't seen it.

As i said, the installation has to be notified to your insurance company and the DVLA and for it to be accepted, it needs to be installed with a registered installer. Any question of rusty holes ? Then the fitter doesnt know what they are doing... or talking about.

There are not many places you can fit an lpg filler point on a range rover. That's it.

You can scoff and deride as much as you like.

i had a highly professional job, with highly reputable installer that does nothing but LPG conversions in a facility that does only that, that was insured, they've done more P38's and Range Rovers than i can shake a stick at, warrantied the work (2 years), provided after sales support (1 year service included in cost) and is still around not having gone bust or disappeared like so many others.

And i can tell you, the BRC system for a V8 is not 300. The cost of the reducer alone is 330. Plus the tank (120), plus injectors (approx 100 each), plus wiring loom, plus fitting plus setting the system and tuning the car etc etc. The cost of their premesis and insurance and staff wages isn't free. I expect them to turn a profit in order to be around to support me years later.

Yes i could have got a cheaper system, installed cheaper, with a couple of hundred miles round trip, or with back yard installer with no warranty, insurance or support, which would void my insurance and leave the car with an unregistered install, however i got the right system for the car, with the right installer. You pay your money you make your choice.

When it comes to selling, i wouldnt touch a car with an unregistered install from an installer that cannot be traced. In fact i would price the car as needing a full replacement LPG system with any prior work and rectification needing doing. If the installer is registered and still in business with a documented and registered install, it's a valuable install, otherwise it's potentially uninsurable.

Caveat emptor.

I chose to pay more to have a quality job done with the right system and have had zero problems with either install.

Go to a backstreet garage / unregistered mobile installer & take your chance. Sooner or later you will be approaching a recognized & reputable installer to sort out your problems. Would you have a similar mentality with having gas fired heating installed in your home....i think not.
PS. The components cost alone in my Tartarini sequential system with dreamxxxl injectors would exceed £1000

Most of the gas fitters I've dealt with have ben useless, some of the worst & most dangerous installations I've ever seen were done by Corgi registered installers. I installed my own gas boiler and I'd be quite happy to install LPG on a car, it's not rocket science.

sorry if you take it personally, I talk about lpg in general, not about your RR, from your photo its look nice and clean. Im talking about lpg instalations with I see on the street with rust aroun lpg filer driled somewere on the body panel. Sometimes I see Mecedes S classe worth 20k with rust bubles around filer..hmm

tell me what lpg system do you have and I will show you EU price for that, and Im sure its not 300GBP for reducer alone. For 190GBP you can have reducer BRC over 400HP and I dont think you have that one. B18 Reduktor BRC Genius MAX Sequent SQ56
